Animal print skirt look number 3.
When I saw this tan, cotton knit sleeveless turtleneck at a boutique in Kansas City this fall, I thought, meh, been there, done that. I pulled it off the rack anyway and noticed the side detail. How the front hemline is higher than the back. Which gives it just enough visual interest and versatility to make it a great basic piece.
Plus, it was affordable. The top was priced under $100, which for a basic piece you’ll wear often, isn’t terrible. Many times, we spend more on a sale item, or a bagful of stuff from H&M that then endures the rest of its life in a dark corner of the closet, unworn.
The moment I got the top home, I was so excited it paired really well with this long, animal print skirt. You can see how it covers the waistline and balances out the voluminous length of the skirt.
This T-neck is also a great go-to for under the leather and pleather jackets you’re seeing in stores everywhere this fall. The top makes an awesome layering piece with jeans and a shorter or cropped jacket.
For Thanksgiving or Black Friday shopping and errands, you could easily wear this outfit with fun trainers and a jean jacket Or, a long cardigan in a contrasting color, like espresso brown.
Style tip: Basic isn’t boring. You need the foundation of a few key, simple basics to provide a canvas for the more stylish or chic items in your closet. Basics are the workhorses of your wardrobe, because you’ll reach for them time after time.
