When I lived in Cali, CBD was everywhere. At Mother’s supermarket, Whole Foods, the gas station. I thought it was marijuana.

Oh yeah, that’s something about pot, right?

I’d heard CBD had healing properties, but that’s as much as I knew.

You too, may have noticed CBD is available everywhere.

In 2018, the US Farm Bill passed, allowing any hemp product with less than .3% of THC (the psychoactive ingredient in pot) to be sold throughout all 50 states. (Nerd factoid!) So, that’s why you now see CBD everywhere.

Because, it’s not pot. CBD comes from the hemp plant, not the marijuana plant.

Think of marijuana and hemp as cousins, or species. They both come from Cannabis Sativa. So, yes, it’s confusing. The facts — marijuana contains high levels of THC and very low CBD. By contrast, hemp is very high in CBD and low in THC.

In other words, you won’t get the munchies from taking CBD!

Here’s what else you may not know:

Most CBD in the US is made from hemp grown in China. In fact, around 85%. In China, hemp is planted around factories because it’s a scavenger plant. Meaning, it pulls the pollutants from the air and is then harvested and shipped here, where it’s bottled and sold as ‘organic’ CBD. Yikes!

This is probably a big reason you may have tried CBD and it didn’t work, or tasted awful.

Also, the purest CBD is found in the hemp flower, not the actual plant — the stems or stalks. Most companies do not harvest CBD from the flower, because it’s too costly and time consuming, instead they chop up the stems and stalks and pop them in a bottle, labeling it organic CBD.

So, there you go, a basic primer on CBD!

Last summer, I went to a party to learn about Green Compass CBD. I’ll admit, I went to the party to meet people.

I learned so much that night about CBD. Here’s the Green Compass story:

  • 100% USA Certified Organic.
  • Green Compass hemp is grown on sixth-generation organic farms in North Carolina.
  • Only CBD from the hemp flower is used.
  • CBD is extracted from the flower using CO’2, vs. methane or butane, which is why some other CBD’s have a metallic or chemical taste.

That night, I was so impressed with the Green Compass story, I signed up to be an advocate and sell the products. Here’s me and another Green Compass advocate, Lesley Reller, doing a FB Live to share the benefits of CBD.

I’ve turned a lot of my friends and family on to Green Compass CBD and they’re also experiencing positive results.

Feeling calm, grounded, centered and pain-free is key to looking our best.
